The six hens — Tiny, Red, Flaty, Blackie, Whitey and Blondie — live in the 300 block of Goldenrod Avenue with their owner, Michael Resk.
He has kept the chickens for about a year and a half, and says they give character the neighborhood and are popular among walkers who stroll past his home on their way back and forth across the Goldenrod Footbridge.
But last month, a neighbor complained about the noise, and an animal control officer told Resk he had two weeks to get rid of the fowl.
Resk emailed Gardner, asking for help. He said he won't be able to attend Tuesday's meeting because of prior travel commitments, but he hopes the council members will help him.
"We do have a reasonable council," Resk said. "If the community says let them stay, the elected officials should listen to them. That's all we ask from our government. This is worth their time."
No citations will be issued against Resk despite the expiration of his two-weeks' notice until the council has made a decision, officials said.
The chickens have drawn media attention from newspapers, bloggers and television crews. The Goldenrod 6, as they are known, have their own Facebook page with nearly 350 fans, and some community members have offered to start a petition in support of letting them stay, Resk said.
The council meets at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 3300 Newport Blvd.
