A large crowd converged for the cocktail reception and opening of the exhibition, which will run through the holidays and is free to the public. Designers created a New York-style gallery setting. It featured a white on white palette of stylish leather Eames chairs surrounding glass tables overflowing with exquisite displays of white Calla lilies.
In the crowd toasting the celebrity opening were Sarah Bancroft, curator of the Orange County Museum of Art; event sponsor Michael Botsko, representing Tiffany & Co., Eames; Shelly Demetrios; Frank Escher; Ming Fung; Gloria Gerace, managing director of Pacific Standard Time and also responsible for the exhibition; artist George Herms; the erudite Jon Holman, who helped coordinate the event; Moira Kamgar, Charles and Twyla Martin; Bruce and Elyse Miller; Joan Weinstein, deputy director of the Getty Foundation; restaurateur Elizabeth An; and patron Henry Segerstrom, his wife Elizabeth, son Anton Segerstrom and son-in-law David Grant.
THE CROWD runs Thursdays and Saturdays. B.W. Cook is editor of the Bay Window, the official publication of the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach.
