CORONA DEL MAR —The Harbor Singers honored the Armed Forces on Friday with music and choreographed moves at the monthly Friends of OASIS meeting.

The Orange County women's singing group performed showtunes and patriotic numbers with dance moves at the OASIS Evelyn Hart Event Center before a crowd of more than 250 seniors.

"It was outstanding," said volunteer Evelyn Hart, for whom the center is named. "When you have talent as magnificent as they do, and with the amount of practice they put into every show, for them to come out and entertain us is really special."

At the close of the program, audience members were asked to sing along for an Armed Forces medley, while those who served stood and were recognized.

"It was wonderful," said 72-year-old Newport resident Lynn Law, whose her father served in the Navy during World War II. "I really appreciated the veterans tribute."

The event was larger than most monthly Friends of OASIS meetings, due to the veterans tribute in honor of Veterans Day, Nov. 11. However, the events usually draw a good-sized crowd and routinely sell out, said organization President Scott Paulsen.

"This is a very warm, welcoming center," he said. "It is also a center for people who want to stay active, stay alert and keep learning."

The organization, which costs $10 a year for an individual and $15 for a couple, has about 7,000 members.

After the program, the Harbor Singers joined the crowd for lunch and a raffle.

Some of the seniors present had been active members for more than 35 years, while others were new faces, Paulsen said.

"I love the feeling of this," he said. "This is what it's all about — people sitting together and getting to know each other."
