The Crowd: Doris Roberts fronts Newport fundraiser for Alzheimer's Assn. [Corrected]

November 04, 2011|By B.W. Cook

The Orange County chapter of the Alzheimer's Assn. held its fifth annual "Visionary Women" luncheon at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa.

FOR THE RECORD:
In the Nov. 5 column "The Crowd: Doris Roberts fronts Newport Fundraiser for Alzheimer's Assn.," Antonello Ristorante should be listed as in Santa Ana, not Costa Mesa. Also, the event titled "Canyon Acres raises funds at Antonello Ristorante" is separate from the "Spooktacular 2011" event. The photo captions also had the incorrect names for those photographed.

Fronting the affair was five-time Emmy Award winning actress Doris Roberts. The co-star of television's "Everybody Loves Raymond" helped event organizers raise an impressive $75,000 to fund local Alzheimer's services as well as advance ongoing research.

Chaired by Kirsten Mangers with support from the Visionary Women's Leadership Circle members Julia Argyros, Jacque Dupont, Susan Johnson, Lauren Kear, Sandra McDaniel, Beverly Newton-Redfern and Marla Robinson, the upbeat luncheon spread the all-important message of hope to both those suffering and to those caring for the victims of Alzheimer's disease.

It was a night of costumes, cocktails and conversation underwritten and supported by donors including Pacific Premiere Bank, Phonak, Comerica Bank, The Word and Brown Companies and Stradling Yocca Carlson and Rauth, attorneys at law.

Funds raised benefit Providence programs "enriching life through gifts of speech and hearing." To learn more go to http://www.PSHC.org.

Canyon Acres raises funds at Antonello Ristorante

Antonello Ristorante, Santa Ana was the romantic setting for an evening under the fall stars on behalf of Canyon Acres, a family services organization providing "housing, care, treatment and supportive services" for abused, neglected children and their families.

The annual dinner gathering is sponsored by a men's group known as Padrini d' Antonello. Every year they honor O.C. philanthropists for their civic contribution. The 2011 "Shining Star" honors went to Pat and Mary Dirk.
