It'll take maybe 10 minutes by bus — not taxi — for Andy Coffman and his University High boys' water polo team to travel from their school in Irvine to Corona del Mar on Wednesday for their biggest match of the season.
But the road to a potential Pacific Coast League title has been just a bit longer than that ride down Jamboree Road.
Coffman was both an assistant varsity coach and the frosh/soph coach at Corona del Mar before taking over at University, where he is now in his third season as head coach. Going into Saturday's nonleague match against San Clemente, the Trojans were 12-6 overall and 6-1 in league, the only league loss coming to Corona del Mar on Oct. 11.
University is ranked No. 8 in the CIF Southern Section Division II poll, but the Trojans know they'll have their work cut out for them against the No. 1-ranked Sea Kings, who won the schools' first matchup, 14-5.
