Hello Kitty
The Hello Kitty mascot will make an appearance at noon at South Coast Plaza, in front of the Canstruction sculpture in her honor. The event is part of the Festival of Children. For more information, visit http://www.festivalofchildren.org.
Fun Zone's 75th
The Balboa Fun Zone marks its 75th anniversary by rolling back tickets for rides to 1936 prices. Between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., people can ride the soon-to-be dismantled carousel for a nickel, the Ferris wheel for a dime, Harbor Cruise rides for 25 cents, as well as visit the ExplorOcean/Newport Harbor Nautical Museum for 5 cents. The Fun Zone is at 600 E. Bay Ave on the Balboa Peninsula.
Great Park Saturday Offerings
A free cheerleading clinic — led by Keith Jones, ex-captain of the USC Yell Leading Squad — takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Great Park's North Lawn. Clinic is open to children aged 7 to 10. To register, go to ocgp.org/events. Great 948, an art installation project involving the community, will go on display from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Park Palm Courts Arts Complex.
All-American Boys Chorus
The All-American Boys Chorus will sing at the Festival of Children at South Coast Plaza at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. in Jewel Court.
Next Up and Peopletree
The Next Up Foundation and Peopletree host a two-part fundraiser to benefit underprivileged youths. The first part, a skateboarding event for families, is from 1 to 6 p.m. at Volcom Skate Park, 1660 Placentia Ave., Costa Mesa. The second part, a live music and cocktail evening, which will only be open to people 21 and older, is from 7 p.m. to midnight at Location 1980, 1980 Placentia Ave., Costa Mesa.
Battle of Tequilas
Taco Rosa Newport Beach, 2632 San Miguel Road, puts on the second annual Battle of the Tequilas event to benefit Youth Employment Services at 3 p.m. Minimum donation is $50. Call (949) 720-0980 to book tickets.
