The Lightning's 11U team also made it to the championship game, but came up short in the final beating South Bay Heat and Jr. Hoops White before losing to the Wilmington Wolverines. The Lightning's great team play was led by Matt Olson, Sam Barela, Mason Melcer, Luke Chelf, DJ Rodman, Cameron Kayl, Jack Garza, Tyler Hollander, Adam Flood, Bryce Motal, Peter Larsen and Will Hanna. Scott Stucki coaches the Lightning 11U team.

Seahawks open with bang
The Newport Mesa Jr. All-American Midget Seahawks opened the season with a 38-0 win over the South OC Patriots.
Anthony Battista led the team with 17 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries.
Opening up space for the running back were linemen Kobe Benter, Jack Genova, Connor Brazeel, Michael Quinn and Karl Donovan.
Balancing the offensive attack in the air was William Hunter with seven catches for 86 yards including 40- and 21-yard touchdown grabs.
Fullback Jason Simaan, who carried the ball for multiple gains, also pulled in a 34-yard touchdown pass.
Nick Yi and Reed Rutter additionally advanced the ball on runs.
Quarterback Stephen Von Der Ahe threw three touchdown passes. He was nine for 16 for 159 yards with no interceptions.
Defensively key tackles were made throughout the game by Dylan Campos and Sutty Barbato, while linemen Dean Ames, Charlie Muller, Garrett Cleary, Brandon Fryer and Nick Silvernail kept pressure on the Patriots.
Controlling the backfield were Max Morin, Dominic Komadina and Andy Strader, who caught an interception.

The Newport Mesa girls' 12U softball team took third place at the Fall Brawl Tournament last weekend.
The team includes: Brooke Branum, Natalie Brown, Samantha Del Toro, Lindsie Hoffman, April James, Kendall Machado, Ashley Marquez, Haley Martinez, Molly McWhertor, Mackinzie Mitchell, Lauren Oberreiter, Lucia Ramussen, Kaitlin Seapy and Allison Sihilling.
