If you are interested in some old-school volleyball, Irvine Valley College on Friday is turning back the clock to the days of the International Volleyball Assn., the first professional co-ed volleyball league in the U.S.
Tom Pestolesi, the coach at IVC, said volleyball legend Karch Kiraly, the three-time gold medalist and three-time NCAA champion at UCLA, and Hugh McCutcheon, the U.S. women's national coach who led the U.S. men to the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, are going to participate in an exhibition set for 7 p.m.
Pestolesi said admission is free to the public, except for a $2 charge to park on campus.
Organizers of the exhibition plan to use the rules of the old IVA, which began in 1975 and folded a handful of years later. Four men and two women will be on the court at all times, the men stay in the front row and women in the back, with no rotation.
