Mary King (Klohs)
Mary was born in Sydney Australia 12/27/1925, she leaves us peacefully on 6/15/2011. Moving from Australia in her 20’s she went to live with family in Windsor Ontario where she met and married Bill Klohs in 1949. They would later answer an ad in a Detroit newspaper to deliver a Cadillac to California and soon settling in Costa Mesa in 1956 when they finished construction of their new duplex. An avid bowler, Kona Lanes, she had numerous games over 200 and a 300 perfect game. She would work at the All American market in Costa Mesa and would transfer as a bookkeeper to the Albertson’s in Corona Del Mar when in 1969 she became a Co-founder of Zubie’s Restaurant in Corona del Mar and later in Costa Mesa in 1972. After leaving her bookkeeping job to work full time in the restaurants, the partnership would later split up the restaurants where she moved to Corona Del Mar and took over and renamed the Corona Del Mar location to “The Place Across the Street from the Port Theater”. It remained family owned and operated till her retirement in 1981. When she took up Golf she made a permanent move to Palm Desert with her Husband Chuck King. She joined her ladies club at Palm Desert Resort and Country Club and played many events throughout the desert. She enjoyed her travels back to Australia to visit her brother and family and many trips to Lake Tahoe, Hawaii and Cruises to Mexico and through the Panama Canal. For the last few years she has called Balboa Island her home where she would enjoy her walks about town and the Bayfront. She is preceded in death by her husband Chuck King and is survived by her daughter, Diane Watson, son Jake Klohs and his wife Dawn Klohs, granddaughter Kelly Lopez (Watson) and her husband Rick, and grandson Woody Klohs.
