OCC dance team wins world championship

COSTA MESA — Orange Coast College's dance team snagged a world championship to add to its collection of 16 national titles.

The dance team won the jazz category at the International Cheer Union's cheer and dance championship April 29 at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla.

The team included Amanda Crandall Corrett, Anabel Juco, Danielle Green, Jasmine Lucero, Jennifer Monahan, Julianne Jouglard, Katherine Mau, McKenna Heckel, Mindee Macahilig, Nathaniel Jinnies, Raquel Lopez, Sonia Sanchez and Stephanie Bailey.

The dance team was coached by Dan Sapp and advised by Mike Reynolds.

Teams from 91 countries participated in the competition, which also included pom and hip-hop categories.
