Among the student scholars were Ruth Barrett, mentored by donors Richard and France Campbell, Melissa Davis, sponsored by Paul Campbell, Colleen Moody, mentored by Barbara Hamkalo, Nicolas Mangano, supported by ARCS in honor of Joan Torres, Janice Chang also funded by ARCS in honor of Nira Roston and John Reager supported by and Carol Malouf. Many additional recipients were funded by Patricia Beckman representing her late parents through the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation.
The upbeat evening began with a cocktail reception at the Beckman Center followed by a formal presentation of scholars in an amphitheatre classroom. Each scholar was introduced by the dean of his or her department accompanied by a short delivery about their scientific field of study. Dinner was then served in the dining room mixing tables of students and their families, if able to attend, with their donor/mentors, teachers and ARCS members at large.
Among the generous ARCS members with purpose were Sue Alexopoulos and Diana Casey, co-chairs of the scholarship presentation event; Ralph Clayman, Ann Rowe, Peggy and Joe Stemler, Carolyn Boyd, Pat Beckman, William and Sandra Beckman, Cynthia French , Ellen and Jim Lewis and Marion Pickens. The president of the foundation is Joan Torres.
