Loyola def. Corona del Mar

LOS ANGELES — Chip Zucker had 15 digs and one ace for the Sea Kings in the nonleague match that Loyola won, 25-21, 29-27, 25-18, Thursday.

CdM (19-4) entered ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division II coaches' poll. Loyola is ranked No. 3 in CIF Division I.

"We were right there with them in Game 1 and they rattled off some good plays," CdM Coach Steve Conti said. "We had them, 24-23, in the second game and then we had a missed serve and two hitting errors. We're not making plays at crunch time when it matters.

"We're pretty similar. They can send in a lot of different guys like us. But they are more consistent. They were able to make the plays down the stretch. That last game was such a disparity because we let that second game slip away from us.
