March 31, 2011

Former Corona del Mar High standout Joe Eberhard, a sophomore in 2010-11 at Irvine Valley Community College, has committed to continue his men's basketball career at Sacramento State, IVC coach Jerry Hernandez has announced.

The 6-foot-5 forward, who began his collegiate career at UC Irvine, was a two-year starter for the Lasers and helped Irvine Valley to two of the best seasons in program history.

Irvine Valley made the Elite Eight of the playoffs each year and reached the state tournament for the first time in school history during the 2009-10 campaign. Over the two years, IVC's record was 49-13.

Eberhard was named first team all-Orange Empire Conference in 2010-11 after ranking fifth in the conference in rebounding, eighth in assists and ninth in scoring.

He averaged 11.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.0 steals on the season. He played in 30 of the team's 31 games, starting each time.

Eberhard scored in double figures in 17 games as a sophomore and had three double-doubles (points and rebounds).

One of his best games was a 20-point, 15-rebound, seven-assist performance in a win over Santa Monica in Irvine Valley's own tournament.

He scored a season-high 26 points twice (against Santa Rosa and Mt. SAC). He made 10 of 11 field-goal attempts en route to the 26 points in IVC's win over Mt. SAC in the Saddleback tournament.

For his career at IVC, Eberhard averaged 10.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists.

At CdM, Eberhard was an All-CIF Southern Section performer. He averaged 15.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists as a senior for the Sea Kings, helping lead them to a Pacific Coast League title.

As a junior, Eberhard helped CdM to a league title and then a CIF championship.

Sacramento State finished 7-21, 4-12 in the Big Sky Conference in 2010-11. Among the team's 21 losses, four came in overtime and five more came by six or fewer points.
