Greek food chain changes name, focus

March 28, 2011

Daphne's Greek Café, a casual Greek-inspired food chain, has changed its name to publicize regional locations and a healthier menu.

The Carlsbad-based restaurant chain, which has more than locations 60 statewide, including restaurants in Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and Irvine, changed its name on March 24 to Daphne's California Greek. The chain started in 1991.

All locations will soon feature new, healthier menu items, undergo interior remodeling and focus on art, music and community. Changes are expected to be completed by the end of the year, according to a press release.

"We are creating a lifestyle brand that is not just focused on flavorful, healthy food, but also on bringing our community together through music, art and fun," said Bill Trefethen, CEO of Daphne's California Greek, in a prepared statement.

The revamped Daphne's locations will eventually add beer and wine and be venues for local artists and musicians to showcase their work, according to the release.

The chain was purchased by Wreath Equity LLC in August 2010.
