NEWPORT BEACH — Corona del Mar High girls' lacrosse coach Aly Vislocky had been stressing defense to her players throughout the week.
The Sea Kings answered with what she said was their best defensive performance of the season Friday. That was great timing, as it led to a 10-5 victory over rival Newport Harbor in the Battle of the Bay at Davidson Field.
"We have been practicing with intense pressure all week," Vislocky said. "We knew we had to face attacking all game. It was pretty cool to see the practice had paid off."
Vislocky added goalie Sarah Hostetler, "had a phenomenal game," and finished with 14 saves. Kylie Mulvaney was one of several defenders who stood out for CdM (6-4), Vislocky said.
"All my defenders played great this game," she said.
On offense, Gabby Smith and Tiffany Paladin led CdM, as each had three goals and one assist. Torrey Attyah contributed two goals and three assists.
