College Roundup: Vanguard's Peraza throws no-hitter

SANTA CLARITA — Junior Tony Peraza threw a no-hitter with six strikeouts and three walks for the visiting Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Thursday.

Jeremiah Mejia went two for four with three runs batted in, while Jerry Pena, Jacob Domingos, Tyson Leighton and Mario Romero also had two hits each for Vanguard (8-8, 4-2 in conference).


The Master's is 12-5, 3-1.




COSTA MESA — Sophomore Katharine Jablonsky threw a two-hit shutout in Game 2 to help host Vanguard earn an 8-0 win and a nonconference split against Saint Thomas of Florida on Thursday.

Jablonsky struck out one and walked one, while senior Amanda Young went three for three with three runs batted in and sophomore Adriana Venezia was three for three with two RBIs to pace the Lions' 12-hit attack.

Vanguard (7-6) had just three hits in a 3-0 opening-game loss.

Saint Thomas is 4-8.



Orange Coast 6, Saddleback 3

COSTA MESA — No. 2 singles player Jesse Chen was one of four Pirates to win in singles in the Orange Empire Conference match Thursday.

No. 3 Felix Demiro, No. 4 Rex Miller and No. 5 Gregory Villacana also won in singles for OCC (5-3, 2-1 in conference).



Saddleback 8, Orange Coast 1

MISSION VIEJO — Lianne Wheelock grabbed the lone win for the Pirates at No. 2 singles in the Orange Empire Conference match Thursday.

OCC is 3-5, 1-3 in conference.
