"A Day with the Marines" will be a full day of activities, demonstrations, and post-deployment debriefing available only to those who attend the "Passport to the World — Italy" event. Support our troops and bid on this incredible opportunity.

Lions Club honored

Harbor Mesa Lions Club was one of three finalists statewide in the "Significant Project Division" to be honored for their school box project. Eberhart Wirfs, immediate past president of Lions International, presented Harbor Mesa President Jennifer Kelder and PR Chairwoman Carol Van Holt a certificate of achievement at the recent convention in Primm, Nev.

The club provides school boxes filled with supplies for first-graders at Whittier Elementary School in Costa Mesa at the start of each school year. The teachers provide a list of all supplies that are needed, such as pencils, erasers, rulers, glue, scissors, etc. Funds to purchase these items are raised at several events each year, including a Casino Night, Bingo Night, Spaghetti Dinner, Candy Sales and a yard sale. For further information about the club, go to nhcmlionsclub.com.
