Louis Zamperini — a former Olympian and World War II aviator who fought for survival on the open waters of the Pacific and in a Japanese POW camp — is the subject of a new book and will be signing copies Thursday night in Newport Beach.
Zamperini, 94, will appear at the Cannery Restaurant's upstairs room from 6 to 8 p.m. to sign "Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption" by Laura Hillenbrand.
The author is well-known for her previous book, "Seabiscuit: An American Legend," which was adapted for the silver screen.
"He is the most amazing human being I have ever met," Cannery owner Ron Salisbury said of his longtime friend, Zamperini. "The things he has accomplished and his life approach is just incredible."
