Animal rights group protesting foie gras at Pascal restaurants

An animal rights group plans to protest at a Fashion Island French restaurant Monday night for serving foie gras on its Valentine's Day menu.

Animal Protection & Rescue League has scheduled a protest at 7 p.m. in front of Brasserie Pascal, one of the eateries run by chef Pascal Olhats. At 8 p.m., protesters will move to another of Pascal's restaurants, Tradition by Pascal on Bristol Street, according to the event's Facebook page.

Foie gras is made from the liver of a duck or goose that has been specially fattened, often through force-feeding.

The four-course Valentine's Day dinner at Brasserie Pascal offers as an appetizer foie gras terrine with late harvest wine poached anjou pear and brioche toast. The meal costs $98 per person.
