A local residential real estate broker is offering Newport Harbor High School students interested in the media a chance to earn money for college.
Bixby Residential, of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, is offering three seniors the chance to win a $1,000 scholarship in print journalism, photography and video/film.
Students can submit entries in one of the three categories and may submit more than one piece of work per category.
Submissions may be put online at http://www.bixbyblog.com and featured in the school's student newspaper.
A winner will be chosen for each category by Grant Bixby of Bixby Residential and Newport Harbor Guidance Counselor Grace Nguyen.
Participants must have a completed school media release form on file and submit entries by May 1.
Print submissions must be in journalistic style and no more than 1,000 words. All entries must be in a Microsoft Word document or in a PDF. Entries can include a photograph or illustration that adds to the article.
Photography submissions should be one image or a sequence, and both print and digital companies are required. A description of the photograph, where it was taken and camera and film details should be included in 250 words or less.
Film/Video entries should be submitted electronically and be no more than five minutes.
All entries should include name, address and email address with each entry.
