Navy Cross WWII Vet dies at age 86 in Newport Beach, CA
Robert Theodore Ramsay (Bob) – November 28, 1924 – January 14, 2011
Bob was born and raised in Tacoma, WA. He entered the Marine Corps during WWII to serve his beloved country. He attended the University of Georgia and St. Olaf College. It was at St. Olaf that he met and married Lorraine Bilden of Northwood, ND. Bob graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1948.
Bob worked in engineering for Kaiser Aluminum and moved with his family to Southern California in 1951. He continued in plastics work and formed his own company of Plastic Extrusions. In Whittier, he entered into community and political life and ran for Congress in 1962. During his life in Whittier, Bob was a Rotarian for 20 years, designed and raised funds for a Veteran’s Memorial, founded Carden School with his wife, and raised their 4 children.
After the death of his beloved wife, Bob met and married Eleanor Neslen of Whittier. They enjoyed homes in Newport Beach, Apple Valley, and Gig Harbor, WA, and also enjoyed many wonderful travels together. Bob became involved in Rotary Club in Newport Beach where he served as President. He is a member of the U.S. Power Squadron in Newport Beach, American Legion Post #546, and American Legion Yacht Club. Bob attended Marine Corps functions regularly. Bob was a patriot through and through – love of family and country were most important in his life.
Bob leaves a loving family –Eleanor Neslen Ramsay, his wife of 24 years, son Marc of Newport Beach, daughter Randi Seagren of La Habra, twin daughters Laura Ramsay of Romoland and Julie Zude of Alta Loma, five grandchildren, Michael Zude, Natasha Zude, Sarah Stargel, Jessica Ramsay, Ashley Miller and three great grandchildren, Steven, Collin, and Lexie. He is also survived by Eleanor’s children, Quayle Neslen (Dotty) of N.C., Nancy Kuzin (Ron) of Costa Mesa, and Marty Ruch (John) of Altadena and Eleanor’s 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Bob passed into eternal life peacefully, surrounded by his family.
Viewing will be Friday January 21, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. followed by the services at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 600 St. Andrew’s Rd, Newport Beach, CA.
Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, CA.
