CdM's Boukather receives MVP

Sea Kings senior outside hitter earns Pacific Coast League's top girls' volleyball honor.

Corona del Mar High senior outside hitter Morgan Boukather was named the Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player in girls' volleyball after leading the Sea Kings to their fifth straight league championship.

Boukather, who is bound for Stanford, is one of six players from CdM (24-8, 10-0 in league) receiving all-league recognition. Senior middle blocker Claire Ham, senior outside hitter Hailey Senske and senior libero Katelyn Baker made the first team, while senior setter Megan Griffin and junior outside hitter Mary McKennon are second-team picks.

The 6-foot-2 Boukather played an instrumental role in CdM reaching the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division I-A playoffs and defeating rival Newport Harbor in the Battle of the Bay for the first time in six years.

Boukather led the Sea Kings with 267 kills and finished with 90 digs and 51 aces.

Boukather and Ham are both repeat first-team selections. Ham is headed to Auburn.

Sailors honored by league

Newport Harbor High junior setter Cinnamon Sary and senior outside hitter Maddy Brown received first-team All-Sunset League recognition in girls' volleyball after helping the Sailors share second place in league.

Sary and Brown are two of seven members from Newport Harbor (22-13, 7-3 in league) making all-league.

Senior middle blocker Lauren Demos and senior outside hitter Sarah Buckingham earned second-team honors, while senior libero Matilda Lumpkin, junior middle blocker Alex Holbrook and junior libero Tatum Norton were honorable mentions.

Sary and Brown led the fourth-seeded Sailors to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs, where they lost to Redondo Union, 25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 25-23.

Sary, a repeat first-team pick, led Newport Harbor with 774 assists and 120 blocks. She finished with 230 kills, 176 digs and eight service aces.

Brown recorded a team-best 378 kills, to go with 142 digs and 42 blocks.

Halli Amaro of Los Alamitos was named the Sunset League MVP.

Sage Hill's Sakraney makes all-league

Sage Hill School junior outside hitter Natasha Sakraney earned first-team All-Academy League honors after helping the girls' volleyball team to a runner-up finish in league.

Sakraney is one of five players from Sage Hill (12-12, 8-2 in league) receiving all-league laurels. Junior Zoe Kreitenberg, sophomore Maggie Danner and junior Alayna Lewis made the second team, while freshman Claudia Noto was an honorable mention.
