Quartet collects honors

Three from Estancia, one from Sage Hill named first-team All-Orange Coast League by coaches.

Estancia High seniors Charlie Umansky, Conner Graham and Preston Schow, along with Sage Hill School senior Eric Hallett, have been named first-team All-Orange Coast League in boys' water polo.

Umansky scored a Newport-Mesa-best 118 goals to help the Eagles (19-7, 4-1 in league) finish second in league.

Graham, a goalie, was an emotional leader and came up big in some of Estancia's biggest games. He had 15 and 13 saves in close wins over Saddleback and Sage Hill, respectively.

Schow's 38 goals were second best on the Eagles, who fell in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs, 20-9, at Damien.


Hallet led the fifth-place Lightning (3-13, 1-4) with 47 goals.

Eagles senior Asher Twardowsky and junior Derek Andrews earned second-team honors, as did Sage Hill senior Kevin Miller and Costa Mesa junior James Lewis.

Lewis paced the last-place Mustangs (8-18, 0-5) with 86 goals.`

Four Anteaters lauded

UC Irvine women's soccer All-Americans Co-Co Goodson and Tanya Taylor have been named first-team All-West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America.

Senior Danielle de Seriere and junior Judy Christopher represented the Anteaters on the second team.

Goodson, a first-team All-American, was the Big West Conference Defender of the Year. She scored nine goals, second among Big West players, and led the conference with five game-winning goals. A Texas transfer who played her first season at UCI, she anchored the back line.

Taylor led the Big West in goals (11) and assists (12) on her way to earning third-team All-American laurels. She helped lead the Anteaters to the program's first Big West regular-season title with an unprecedented 8-0 conference record. UCI made its first trip to the NCAA Tournament, where it reached the round of 16 and finished 19-3-2.

The Big West Goalkeeper of the Year, de Seriere led the conference in goals-against average (0.69) and shutouts (11). The shutout total tied the league's single-season record and helped put her No. 1 in school history with 31 career shutouts.

Christopher, a defensive midfielder who earned first-team all-conference honors for the second straight season, had one goal and four assists.

UCI trio recognized

UC Irvine senior men's soccer players Corey Attaway and Amani Walker have been named first-team All-West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America.

Junior Miguel Ibarra represented the Anteaters on the third team.
