Bloomingdale's fundraiser to help Newport Harbor High

December 08, 2010

Shoppers will have a chance to mark items off of their holiday shopping lists while raising funds for local high school students on Thursday at Bloomingdale's, Fashion Island.

Customers who mention "Newport Harbor High School" when making a purchase any time on Thursday will see 10% of the transaction price donated to the Newport Harbor Educational Foundation.

"Newport Harbor Educational Foundation funds programs not covered by the school district," foundation board member Heidi Mendoza said. "In these times of cutbacks, putting so many programs at risk, it's crucial to have money to support the programs that run the school."

Customers must bring their receipts to Bloomingdale's redemption counter, located on Level One in the Fashion Store or at Gift Wrap in the Home Store, in order to secure the donation.

Last year, the foundation raised $5,000 to benefit Newport Harbor High School during the one-day event, Mendoza said.

The foundation raises $500,000 for the school each year.

Customers who spend $150 will also receive a $15 bMoney card for use at Bloomingdale's, Mendoza said.

"It's a win-win situation," she said.

In addition to the fundraiser, Newport Harbor students will host a Bloomingdale's fashion show at 7 p.m. in the store. In a separate event the same evening, school clubs will debut "outfits" created entirely from Bloomingdale's paper shopping bags.
