American Legion National Commander Jimmie Foster is scheduled to attend a dinner at Newport Harbor Post 291 on Monday, Dec. 13. Key members of Foster's command staff will accompany him to the dinner. Also attending will be the parents of Michael A. Monsoor (Navy Seal, Iraq War), a posthumous recipient of the Medal of Honor, and Medal of Honor Recipient Tibor "Ted" Rubin (Army, Korea). From the American Legion Department of California will be Cmdr. Mark Foxworthy and Department Adjutant Bill Siller III. Post 291 Cmdr. Steve Spriggs will preside. Entertainment will be provided by Celebration USA, the patriotic singing and performance art youth group from Villa Park.
Stuffed animal drive
Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Costa Mesa and the Boys & Girls Club of the Harbor Area, the Builders Torch Club, a service-leadership club of fifth-, sixth-, and seventh-graders at the Boys & Girls Club in Costa Mesa, is holding a stuffed animal drive. The group is seeking donations for a local hospital of new or gently used stuffed animals.
