A 23-year-old woman was taken to Santa Ana's Western Medical Center Trauma Center on Tuesday morning with a severe head injury after getting hit by debris from a car crash in Costa Mesa, officials said.
Police declined to identify the woman, who lives in Santa Ana.
Officers said at about 7:50 a.m. a 17-year-old Irvine driver in a Chevrolet 1500 pick-up truck ran a red light on westbound Sunflower Avenue off Stevens Avenue, hitting two cars headed north and south, respectively.
The drivers of the other cars, a 23-year-old Santa Ana woman and a 18-year-old woman also from Santa Ana, were uninjured. Debris from the wreck flew to the northwest corner of the sidewalk where pedestrian was standing when she got hit.
