Costa Mesa residents and brothers Ryan and Jake Knapp teamed to shoot six-under-par 66 Monday to tie for first in the 2010 Southern California Golf Assn. Four-Ball Qualifying event at Carlton Oaks Country Club in Santee.

Ryan, who led Orange Coast College to the state championships last spring, and Jake, the Orange Coast League individual champion who finished third in the CIF Southern Section Individual Championships last spring, have also set their collegiate futures.

Ryan, the No. 1 player at OCC last season, is taking classes at UC Irvine, where he will begin competing for the Anteaters next fall, said Knapp's father, Bob.

Bob Knapp also said Jake, a junior at Estancia, has verbally committed to continuing at UCLA, beginning the fall of 2012.

By virtue of Monday's performance, Ryan and Jake will be among the 52-team field for the 20th SCGA Four-Ball Championship at The Farms in Rancho Santa Fe on Nov. 8 and 9.

UC Irvine swept the weekly Big West Conference awards in men's and women's soccer.

Senior women's forward Tanya Taylor is the Offensive Player of the Week and senior teammate Nikki Forrest is the Defensive Player of the Week.

Senior forward Amani Walker (offensive) and senior midfielder Gray Bailey (defensive) earned top men's honors for the Anteaters.

 Taylor recorded one goal and two assists in weekend wins at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and UC Santa Barbara. She fed teammate Alexis Rafael for the winning goal with one minute left in the second overtime of Sunday's victory over UCSB.

Taylor leads the conference in goals (nine), assists (eight), points (26), goals per game (0.60) and points per game (1.73).

Forrest is part of a defense that shut out Cal Poly and held UCSB to just two corner kicks. UCSB's lone goal came on a penalty kick.

Forrest, who had two assists in the weekend wins, also was named a member of the National Team of the Week.

Coach Scott Juniper's UCI women's team is 12-1-2, 4-0 in the Big West. It has won its last nine games and is on a 12-game unbeaten streak. The Anteaters are ranked No. 19 by Soccer America and are ranked No. 3 in the West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Assn.
