'Eaters Brock injured

Baseball pitcher, who had breakout freshman season in 2010, out indefinitely with torn right labrum.

September 27, 2010

UC Irvine baseball pitcher Evan Brock, who went 6-4 with a 3.14 earned-run average as a freshman in 2010 and limited opponents to a .162 batting average, is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right throwing shoulder, school officials said Monday.

Brock, whose participation with the collegiate national team over the summer was cut short due to the injury, was named to the all-regional team at the NCAA Los Angeles Regional, in which the Anteaters were eliminated.

Brock struck out nine in 81/3 innings in two appearances in the regional at UCLA, including earning the victory in a 4-3 triumph that eliminated then-defending national champion LSU.

Brock struck out 62 in 63 innings and surrendered only 34 hits in his first collegiate season, in which he made 20 appearances and six starts.
