Austin Di Giulio, an unseeded 10-year-old, reached the final in the boys' 14 singles division at the 18th annual Costa Mesa Summer Junior Classic after recording victories in the quarterfinals and semifinals Thursday at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
Di Giulio, a Newport Beach resident, beat Alex Tran, 6-3, 6-3, in the quarters in the morning and then defeated Joshua Ortlip, 6-4, 6-0, in the semifinals in the afternoon.
Di Giulio, the No. 9-ranked player in Southern California in the boys' 10s by the United States Tennis Assn., plays against Harrison Scott for the title today at 9 a.m. Just like Di Giulio, Scott went into the tournament unseeded.
