NEWPORT BEACH — The Cut for a Cure event over the weekend raised more than $3,500 for cancer prevention and treatment at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange, organizers said Tuesday.
The five-hour "cut-and-style-a-thon" took place at Armando — A Joshua Christopher Salon, located at 980 W. Coast Hwy. in Newport.
"Everybody is touched by cancer and everyone wants to feel beautiful," Christopher Nunez, owner of Armando and the Joshua Christopher Salon in Fullerton, said in a news release following the fundraiser. "I'm so appreciative of my staff because they are volunteering their time to raise money for a worthwhile cause such as the Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment at St. Joseph Hospital."
Several local businesses donated toward the cause, including Lucy Active Wear, Susie Cakes Cupcakes and the OC Team Training Center, Shu Uemura, TIGI Hair Studios and Number 4 High Performance Hair Care.
"I wanted to help make the Cut for a Cure bigger and better this year, so I asked local businesses to help contribute to the gift bags," said Steve De La Torre of Personal Training Revolution. "This is my first year being involved in this exciting event and I feel like even a small donation can make a big impact."
