In Newport Harbor, check out the American Legion Yacht Club's Old Glory Boat Parade from 1 to 5 p.m. Owners cover their ships in red, white and blue in hopes of earning trophies for best Decoration, best costumes, or the elusive Commodore's Award. A tradition more than 50 years in the making, the parade forms off of Collins Island and will be led by the Harbor Patrol Fire Boat.
Stop by the American Legion Newport Harbor Post, 291 15th St., from 7 to 11 a.m. for the famous $10 pancake breakfast; lunch and dinner also will be served from noon to 5 p.m. for $10. The parade can be viewed from the post, as well as many places overlooking the harbor. For more information, call (949) 673-5070 or visit al291.com.
