Proceeds will benefit Containers of Hope, which assembles backpacks filled with clothing, school supplies, food, and other basic necessities shipped to children both locally and overseas.
"We've been blessed, so I think it's time we did something," Hampton said. "We're working, making money and surviving — it's time to give back."
This Sunday, salon stylists will be offering cuts for $10 and cuts with blow-dry for $20.
Normally, a woman's cut and dry can start at around $70, salon stylist Ashley Guillory said.
"We're going to be doing what we do best for charity," Guillory said.
Guillory, whose mother Jana Williams founded and runs Containers of Hope from her La Habra Heights home, said that she has seen similar successful fundraising events in salons where she has worked in the past and wanted to carry the idea into her current workplace, Hampton Salon.
The salon has already received numerous phone calls about the event — even reservations for specific stylists, she said.
Both walk-ins and reservations are welcome for the 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday event. However, the discount extends to new customers only, according to the event flier.
"It will be the first time we've done anything with this particular organization, so I'm not sure what to expect," Hampton said. "I would like to see thousands of people come in [on Sunday] to share in our talents and help with a great cause."
In addition to the cheap salon services, there will also be food, art and jewelry vendors contributing their time and proceeds to Containers of Hope.
"This weekend is going to be a lot of fun," Guillory said. "Everyone is going to be here for the right reason. We're all so blessed. Giving the day for a kid who needs help — it's just the right thing to do."
