Boys' 5-6 Silver

St. Joachim 5, Andersen 1

COSTA MESA — St. Joachim came out strong with a goal in the first quarter by forward Cooper Peters. The ball was driven down field by strong midfielders Ryan Del Valle, Spencer Morrison, Anthony Agama and Sam Miller.

Forwards Cole Schattinger and Will Avonce kept the pressure on with all their shots on goal. Rex Kathcart scored two goals back-to-back to help keep St Joachim ahead before Andersen came in with a goal of its own to narrow the lead. Andrew Pimentel played goalie and blocked Andersen's final attempts to score. Chandler Siemonsma scored St Joachim's final goal of the game.

The team was assisted by the strong defense of Eduardo Figueroa, Cole Kinder, Michael Lehman and DJ Van Oostendorp.

Girls' 5-6 Gold

Harbor Day 1, Newport Heights 0

COSTA MESA — Harbor Day took advantage of an own-goal to escape with the win Wednesday at the Farm Sports Complex.


Harbor Day Coach Todd Anderson highlighted the play of midfielder Alyssa Anderson, sweeper Giordana Ricci and defender Madeleine Francis, as well as thanking Briana Corlette for filling in.

Claire Olmstead, Callaway Kennedy and Katie Robinson all played well for Newport Heights.

Boys' 3-4 Bronze

Mariners 5, Pomona 3

COSTA MESA — Will Kenney had a hat trick to lead Mariners to the victory Wednesday.

Yoshi Sako also scored for Mariners (1-0), which took advantage of an own-goal by Pomona. Coach Ken Coatsworth also highlighted the play of goalie Blake Ludes and defender Connor Spence.

Juan Avilos, Brian Castellon and Michael Batres all scored for Pomona (1-1). Goalie/forward Eduardo Gomez also played well.

Paularino 2, Prince of Peace 1

COSTA MESA — Arian Nieves and Miguel Ramirez each scored goals for Paularino at Costa Mesa High Wednesday.

Nathaniel Martinez had a goal for Prince of Peace of Costa Mesa.

Girls' 3-4 Silver

Newport Heights 4, California 1

COSTA MESA — Kate Davidson and Kelcy Sweeny each scored twice in Newport Heights' first game at Costa Mesa High Wednesday.

Maddy Alalul made 16 saves for Newport Heights.
