Matsuoka named All-American
Corona del Mar high senior Melissa Matsuoka was selected All-American for girls' tennis by the National High School Tennis All-American Foundation.
Matsuoka was one of 40 girls nationally selected for the honor. She will be recognized at the Southern California All-American Awards Banquet, held at 6 p.m. Monday at the Newport Beach Yacht Club.
Matsuoka, a four-year varsity starter headed for Dartmouth, helped CdM win the CIF Division I title as a freshman in 2006. This past fall, she helped CdM win its 11th straight Pacific Coast League title and advance to the Division I semifinals. Matsuoka also advanced to the CIF Individuals doubles final with teammate Hailey Hogan. Coach Brian Ricker said the Sea Kings were 86-6 in her four years on the team.
Former CdM Coach Tim Mang is the executive director of the National High School Tennis All-American Foundation.
