Irvine Valley (16-3) handed OCC both of its losses this season on its way to winning the Pacific Coast Conference.
Moorpark, which OCC defeated, 23-30, 30-23, 30-21, 25-30, 15-10, in a nonconference match on Feb. 19, was runner-up to Long Beach in the Western State Conference.
The Pirates, who controlled the match in the first two games, were edged in the third and closed it out in four.
Game 4 was tied, 26-26, before a Vikings hitting error and a combined block from Troy Tomasello and Richard De. St. Jean gave OCC a two-point lead.
After a tip kill by Randy Prevel, who led Long Beach with 15 kills, drew the Vikings within one, OCC sophomore outside hitter Brad Hemmerling, who led all players with 29 kills, put away a Paul Leon assist to create match point.
The Pirates left little remaining drama as a Long Beach spike sailed long to allow OCC to advance.
Hemmerling hit .389 in the match, adding one ace, two block assists and nine digs.
Leon dished out 60 assists, while Tomasello had 18 kills and 11 digs.
Harrison Carroll contributed 12 kills and six digs for the winners, who received 13 digs from libero Harrison Phelps.
“I think Tomasello allowed us to spread around our offense a little bit,” Turner said.
“Hemmerling has carried us all season and he was big tonight.”
OCC scored the final four points of the first game.
The Pirates, who came in leading the state in hitting percentage (.326), hit .379 to claim Game 2, a game in which they led, 25-16, before surviving a Vikings rally.
OCC held leads of 11-7, 23-20 and 26-23, but the Vikings refused to submit.
The Pirates are 5-6 in their previous title matches, winning in 1994, 1991, 1990, 1989 and 1987.
OCC fell in the title match in 2008 to IVC, as well as in 2002, 1997, 1996, 1982 and 1981.
Moorpark won its only previous final appearance in 2005, when it defeated Palomar in five.
The Raiders advanced Thursday by posting a 30-22, 30-24, 28-30, 31-33, 15-13 triumph over IVC.
