The scholars of Boys Hope Girls Hope are giving back -- in a very big way. On March 14, the students organized and ran a very successful car wash to help raise funds for relief in Haiti. Jemal, currently a sixth grader at St. Cecelia’s in Tustin, learned about the devastating earth quake from his teacher at school. He was especially concerned that the children of Haiti would not have any food, water or shelter. He wanted to raise funds to help out and came up with the idea of a car wash. He would donate all proceeds to the American Red Cross.
The car wash was held in the 7-11 parking lot at 17th & Orange in Costa Mesa. Both the boys’ and girls’ homes participated in the event. Not only did the scholars wash cars to raise money, but they also conducted a successful bake sale; over $200 was raised! One generous couple not only made a sizeable donation but went above and beyond by purchasing extra car wash supplies for the scholars.
