SANTA CLARITA — Designated hitter Kip Masuda went two for three with three runs batted in and his team-leading fifth home run of the season to pace the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference road game Monday.
Vanguard catcher Eric Krzysiak went two for three with two RBIs and Tyson Leighton tripled in two runs during a five-run sixth that put the visitors (16-2, 7-1 in conference) ahead for good.
Jason Dovel launched his first home run of the season for Vanguard.
Robert Purpura worked perfect ninth to record his fourth save of the season.
Vanguard returns to action Thursday in a conference doubleheader at San Diego Christian, beginning at 11 a.m.

SAN JOSE — UC Irvine sits in fifth place after the first two rounds at the Almaden Country Club Monday.
The Anteaters shot a 36-hole total of 608 (299-309) on a day that ended in rain and hail. Host San Jose State leads the 16-team field with a score of 595 (295-300).
UC Davis is second (601), California is third (602) and Fresno State is fourth (604).
Sophomore Lalita Patipaksiri (75-75) and junior Hillary Packard (76-74) are tied for 13th with a two-round total of 150.

FRESNO — The UC Irvine men’s golf team is in seventh place during the second round that was suspended due to darkness at San Joaquin Country Club.
UCI’s John Chin is in 11th, shooting a 75 in the first round and he is four-under in the second round.
