SANTA BARBARA — Junior guard Patrick Rembert missed the front end of a one-and-one free-throw situation with 15 seconds left and the Anteaters trailing, 75-74, in the Big West Conference game Wednesday.
James Powell hit two subsequent free throws and Eric Wise’s three-point attempt missed to thwart UCI’s final possession.
Wise had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead UCI (13-17, 5-10). Michael Hunter had 18 points for UCI.
UCSB (18-9, 12-4) clinched at least a share of the regular-season conference title.
UCI, which is tied for eighth with UC Riverside in a struggle to earn on of the eight berths into next week’s Big West Tournament, closes its regular season Saturday at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

COSTA MESA — Bridgette Reyes had 25 points and Rachel Copeland hit six of eight three-point attempts on her way to 22 points for the host Lions in a quarterfinal of the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday.
Diana Neves (15 points) and Jackie Blied (13) also chipped in for No. 3-ranked Vanguard (23-2).
The top-seeded Lions meet No. 4-seeded Biola at home in one semifinal Friday at 7:30 p.m.

IRVINE — Sophomore Mikah Maly-Karros had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Anteaters in the Big West Conference game Wednesday.
Jade Smith-Williams had 12 points for UCI (9-19, 6-9 in conference), which led, 35-31, at halftime.
UCSB improved to 12-16, 9-7.
UCI closes its regular season Saturday at home against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
BASEBALL
Vanguard 3, The Master’s 2
COSTA MESA — The Lions rallied from a 2-0 deficit with single tallies in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings Wednesday to improve to 14-1, 5-0 in Golden State Athlete Conference play.
Brandon Pesante reached on an error and later scored on an error for the game-winner, allowing Lions reliever Adrian Mendoza to earn the win and Robert Purpura to post his third save.
Brandon Godfrey allowed no earned runs in seven innings for Vanguard, for which Tyson Leighton was two for three with one run batted in.
The Master’s is 9-6, 3-2.
MEN’S TENNIS

IRVINE — Sophomore Steven Henderson won in singles and doubles for the host Anteaters in the nonconference match Wednesday.
Henderson won at No. 6 singles and teamed with senior Zac Tsai to win at No. 2 doubles.
