A 33-year-old man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl he met on the social networking website MySpace was arrested at a warehouse in Costa Mesa on Friday night.

Police allege Matthew Martinez Casteneda, 33, of Anaheim, persuaded a Santa Ana girl to meet him at South Coast Plaza on Wednesday after talking to her online.

From South Coast Plaza, the pair took a bus to Anaheim, where they visited two parks, according to police.

Police claim Casteneda then took the girl to Zaby’s Motor Lodge at Harbor Boulevard and Katella Avenue in Anaheim, where he rented a room.

Casteneda allegedly raped the girl around 6 p.m. on Wednesday and then left her alone in the hotel room, according to police.

The girl left the hotel around 6:30 p.m. and flagged down an Anaheim police cruiser.

Anaheim police found Casteneda at a warehouse in the 2000 block of Placentia Avenue in Costa Mesa around midnight on Friday.

Investigators used information provided to them by MySpace to identify and catch Casteneda.

Casteneda was arrested and booked on suspicion of lewd and lascivious behavior with a child under 14.

Casteneda was a frequent visitor to Zaby’s Motor Lodge in Anaheim, and he may have victimized other minors there, police believe.

Anaheim police ask anyone with more information about Casteneda to call detectives at (714) 765-1958.
