Editor’s note: The following are responses to the Jan. 5 article “O.C. Fairgrounds sale still on.”

The Orange County Fair is a cultural event to Orange County. This action probably doesn’t seem like much to the governor, but families look forward to the event every year, small children are able to see and touch animals they would never see otherwise, and the grounds are used for many other public events. Not only will the city of Costa Mesa lose the area for many other events but, no doubt, 150 acres of more homes will be built there, abolishing that open space. In addition, this action emphasizes the governor’s apparent poor management of the state finances.

Unfortunately the governor’s lifestyle is far removed from the life of ordinary people, so he is unaware of what the Orange County Fair means to the citizens of this area.

Because of this proposed sale, I can’t emphasize how deeply disappointed I am in the governor, whom I voted for both times, and would support an impeachment process financially and by my vote.

Officials must take stand for fairgrounds

Well, it sounds like it is time for the Costa Mesa City Council to take action and stand behind it. I think with little doubt it was Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger that helped get the state in the financial mess we now have. And, to correct it, he wants to throw the baby out with the bath water. Seems to me the council needs to change the zoning on the fairgrounds and stick to it.

Schwarzenegger can make waves, and we’ll just have to deal with whatever else he does in retaliation. It is time to make a stand and deal with it, but we must make a stand for our community. We need the fairgrounds, not developers.

City should welcome sale of fairgrounds

From what I read, the Costa Mesa City Council is a politically conservative group. If so, they should welcome the sale of any government-controlled land in their city, and welcome private enterprise taking over the land and developing it into a free-enterprise real estate project.
