Violent crime in Costa Mesa rose by more than 15% in the first six months of 2009 when compared with the same period last year, according to statistics released by the FBI.
Between January and June of this year, there have been more robberies, assaults, burglaries and thefts than in the same months in 2008, the semiannual crime report showed.
Police Sgt. Bryan Glass said that with more recent statistics factored in, including data from the July to November period of both years, violent crimes actually decreased. By the end of November, he said, violent crimes were down more than 13% for the year. Property crimes also decreased, Glass said.
