Soroptimist Workplace Campaign helps abuse victims

As business and professional women, Soroptimists feel uniquely qualified to tackle this issue, by distributing these cards, we are taking the first step in creating awareness of this important issue.  

Soroptimist International of Newport Harbor Area is a local club building connections with a clear vision, dialog and advocacy to help women locally and globally. They are joined by approximately 100,000 Soroptimists world wide, in 3,000 clubs in over 120 countries. In addition to information distribution during the month of November the Newport Harbor Area club is:

Sending letters to their representatives to press for the passage and support of CEDAW (United Nations Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women), visit: http://soroptimist.org/actnow/actnow.html to see how you can participate;

they are having a community program meeting about Fair Trade, which includes information about how our choices as consumers impact human trafficking (which involves violence against women and girls) on November 18th at the Clubhouse Restaurant at South Coast Plaza in the Normandie Room from 5:30pm to 7:30pm (the public is welcome); and

they are having a film night to raise awarenss about domestic violence at which they will view: "Sin by Silence," an inside look at women in prison and women in domestic violence situations. For more details you can email the club at sinewportharborarea@soroptimist.net.
