Sage Hill goes to air

REDLANDS — The Sage Hill School football team used a passing attack led by quarterback Randall Mycorn to produce a 25-6 nonleague win against Citrus Valley at Redlands High Friday night.

Mycorn, a junior returning from a separated shoulder, threw for 156 yards and two touchdown passes.

“We tried to work a game-plan, as ironic as it sounds, in that we didn’t want him to get hit,” Sage Hill Coach J.R. Tolver said of Mycorn. “We decided to give him quick three-step drops, get the ball out quick and it worked out.”

Tolver was especially pleased that his team performed well despite playing without key starters, senior fullback-linebacker Dusty Orrantia and senior offensive lineman-linebacker Mo Kreitenberg.

Orrantia was out with illness, while Kreitenberg was away on a college visit for baseball, Tolver said.

“We are starting to come together as a team,” Tolver said.

The Lightning (5-1) built an 18-0 lead before halftime. Mycorn connected with senior Andy Multari for a 16-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Sophomore Taylor Petty caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Mycorn in the second quarter and junior Taylor Ross nailed two field goals from 21 and 29 yards out.

Junior Eric Cheng, who rushed for 40 yards on 11 carries, rounded out the scoring with an 11-yard TD run. Ross led the Lightning with 72 yards on seven carries.

Senior Connor Gaughan had five catches for 77 yards and Petty three receptions for 45 yards and the TD.
