The 21st annual United Interfaith Hunger Walk will be Oct. 18 along the beautiful Upper Newport Bay, according to Co-Chairman Bob Johnston.

The 7K and 4K walks begin at 1:30 p.m. with registration starting at 1 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels, at the corner of Eastbluff Drive and Jamboree Road in Newport Beach.

The goal is to raise $35,000 with 25% of the proceeds benefiting Share Our Selves, Jewish Family Services, O.C. Interfaith Shelter and the Catholic Worker. The balance of the proceeds will go to worldwide charity organizations that fight hunger. Walkers can be from congregations, service clubs, high school groups and even business associates, Johnston said. Walkers can get pledge sheets from the Rev. Dennis Short, at (949) 645-5781.

As many as 350 walkers from several dozen congregations representing different faiths from around Orange County are expected to participate.

The walk is a fun time for families. Each walker receives a free T-shirt, and there are games, live music, food and drinks at the end of the walk.

SPEAK UP NEWPORT

The Oct. 14 meeting of Speak Up Newport will feature an update by the newly selected city manager, Dave Kiff, who will provide an update on the Newport Beach Civic Center Project.

The event is at the Newport Beach Yacht Club and begins at 5:30 p.m. with appetizers and a cash bar, followed by the program from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Guests are always welcome.

60TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER

The Kiwanis Club of Costa Mesa will hold a gala dinner at the Costa Mesa Neighborhood Community Center from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 25, to celebrate its 60 years of service to the children of Costa Mesa, said Dinner Chairman Jim Bonar. The evening includes dinner, musical entertainment, presentation of awards and an evening with longtime and new friends. Tickets are $30 per person, or $225 for tables of eight.
