Four sought in two thefts

Costa Mesa police are looking for suspects in two armed robberies over the weekend.

Authorities said between 8 and 10 p.m. Saturday two men broke into a house in the 600 block of Whitney Way. The robbers were already inside when the homeowner and another person walked in, said Sgt. Jerry Hildeman. One of the robbers had a gun, and he and his accomplice tied up the two residents, police said.

Police believe the robbery wasn’t random because the homeowner owns a marijuana dispensary in South Orange County and had a significant amount of cash in his home.

The suspects forced the homeowner to unlock a safe he had in the house, then tied him back up, police said. The two attackers made off with cash and other items. The two victims were reportedly uninjured and managed to call police about 3 a.m. Sunday, records show.

In an unrelated incident, police said two people robbed a Costa Mesa carwash Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said two men robbed the Wild Water Express Carwash at the Chevron gas station, 1195 W. Baker St. in Costa Mesa, at gunpoint.

The men walked up to the clerk, pulled out guns and had the cashier empty the drawer about 4:45 p.m., police said. They made off in a black vehicle that looked like a Chevy Impala, Hildeman said.

No one was injured in either incident, and police did not have detailed descriptions of the suspects.
