Marjorie Reday
Marjorie(Peg) Reday, supporter of the arts in
Orange County, writer, poet, and world traveler,
died July 9 at her home in Newport Beach,
following a long battle with cancer. She was 88.
Born Marjorie Gladys Sullivan on October 14,
1920 in Carrum, Victoria, Australia, she was
the daughter of Gerald Joseph Sullivan and
Gladys Wray Sullivan. As a young woman during
World War II she worked for General Douglas
MacArthur at the Allied Forces command
center in Australia, where she met her husband,
American Lt. Ladislaw Reday. After their
marriage immediately following the war, the
Redays lived in the Philippines and in Japan
before relocating to California, eventually settling
in Newport Beach.
Mrs Reday was a co-founder of Childrens’
Theater Guild, an early supporter of South Coast
Repertory Theater, and also served on the Board
of the Orange County Philharmonic. Mrs. Reday
received her BA from UCI.
Mrs. Reday is survived by her three daughters,
Michele Reday Cook of Alexandria, Virginia;
Elizabeth Wray Reday of South Pasadena,
California; and Lenore Reday of San Pedro,
California; as well as three grandchildren, Noah
Reday Cook of Alexandria VA; Megan Rose
Cook of Washington, DC.; and Alexander
Ladislaw O’Donnell of South Pasadena,
California.
A memorial will be held the end of August. In
lieu of flowers contributions to Hoag Memorial
Hospital or American Cancer Society.
