Officials said earlier this month a concerned mother contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Department sexual assault felony enforcement team and said her 14-year-old daughter had met Chaney online and had cyber sex with him over a webcam. The girl and Chaney later met in person and had sex, authorities said.
With a search warrant granted earlier this month, FBI and local authorities searched Chaney’s apartment and said they found evidence that he assaulted a second girl while she was unconscious. Investigators also found videos of other victims in his apartment, police said. He was arrested June 6 and faces up to 14 years in prison if convicted of all charges.
Chaney is being held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned June 26.
Prosecutors said in a separate case, David Brown, 34, of Lake Forest, a suspected online predator, lured high school girls into sexual relationships through social networking sites and instant messaging.
Federal authorities have filed charges against Brock Jackson, 21, of Santa Margarita, on suspicion of possessing child pornography. Authorities said a search of his laptop turned up about 6,000 pornographic images of children.
Authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying other possible victims.
