Runners in the Magic Shoe High Heel Dash at Corona del Mar High School on Saturday raced 100 yards in spiked heels for pedicures and a bronzed shoe, but also raised money for the Newport-based Cynthia Holcomb Magic Shoe Foundation.
The nonprofit group donates shoes to schools, boys’ and girls’ clubs and homeless shelters for needy children.
Founded by longtime Corona del Mar track and cross country coach Bill Sumner, the nonprofit has donated more than 20,000 pairs of shoes since its inception in 1981.
The event also included a 5K walk and run and a kids’ run.
