Greer’s Best Buys:

Come enjoy gardening tips, live music

May 14, 2009|By Greer Wylder

A Harvest of Hope is a fun two-day garden event today and Saturday in Newport Beach where you can purchase treasures from an array of gardening and home wares, many which are one-of-a-kind, recycled, recreated and found objects; attend workshops about organic gardening and sustainable living methods; and enjoy the gardens and live music throughout the day.

Proceeds from the event will go to Feeding America, a network of more than 200 food banks, and ASAP, a program in Zimbabwe that trains and provides people with knowledge and tools, including seeds and drip systems, to grow food in communities where people are struggling to get access to food and even starving. You can go online to sign up for fabulous workshops, many of which are free.

The workshops include “Saving the Planet with Your Fork” with Delilah Snell of Road Less Traveled store today at 11:30 a.m. “Turning Your Kitchen Scraps into Garden Gold” with Ray Mendes of Two Carrots, a residential organic gardening company at 1 p.m. today; and at 3 p.m. Saturday.
