Orange County Informal Property Tax Review Closes April 30: Do Not Miss Out on Easy Way to Save Money

On April 30, the Orange County Assessors Office will close the informal property tax appeal reviews. CA Property Tax Savers, an online service provider which helps California homeowners quickly and accurately assess the value of their homes and determine whether or not they are eligible for a property tax reduction, wants Orange County residents to know that by not submitting their informal tax appeal by the deadline, they may leave hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on the table.

            “Most homeowners are not aware of the option to request an informal review, yet almost every county makes this available,” said Cornell Beans, co-founder of CA Property Tax Savers. “It is unfortunate that many homeowners are unaware that there is an informal option available to them; and that the process is much simpler, involves less of their time and can yield quicker results than the formal appeal.”

            The entire state of California has seen a dramatic decrease in home values. By utilizing the informal review process many Orange County residents may be able to have their property taxes temporarily reduced, before taking the more drastic and daunting step of making a formal appeal and presentation in front of the appeals board. 

CA Property Tax Savers educates consumers that the informal process will provide the most expeditious means of appealing a property's assessed value for a number of reasons:

·        It’s as Easy as 1, 2, 3: The informal review requires: 1) the completion of one form, 2) submitted in time to meet the deadline, 3) including three comps. 

·        You Can Do it in Your Pajamas: To complete the informal review, a completed form and comps can be mailed to the county assessor’s office, whereas the formal process may require that the homeowner presents the case to an official panel. 

·        There’s a Plan B: If after submitting the informal review consumers don’t receive the assessed value they are looking for, they have the option to formally appeal in July to the Board of Appeals.
